UN condemns southern insurgents

BANGKOK: -- The United Nations today condemned southern insurgents after they seized a hospital to attack an adjacent army base in Narathiwat province Sunday night.

In a statement released today by the UN Human Rights Office for South-East Asia (OHCHR), it said, ” hospitals, medical units and medical personnel are protected under international humanitarian law, and they should not be targeted or used for military purposes at any time,”

It said while attacks on medical staff in Thailand’s south have taken place, some of them fatal, Sunday’s assault was believed to be the first time insurgents had seized a hospital.

OHCHR’s acting regional head Laurent Meillan said the new tactic is deeply concerning.

and as we all know, this condemnation will immediately stop any further aggression.

thank you, un, for keeping us all safe and secure.

And yet not a word from the UN condemning the stabbing campaign by Hamas against Israelis. How does that work? Oh yes I remember, Saudi chairing the human rights board maybe?

Excellent. Good to see that problem is all fixed! No need to send in the 'Blue Helmet Boyz'.

Might the Thai military have placed its paramilitary (aka rent-a-trooper) outpost near the hospital with the intent to create a buffer or trip wire for insurgent attacks?

Notice that when the outpost recovered from the initial surprise attack from insuregnts in the hopistal, the military directly counter attacked the insurgents in the hospital. Collateral civilian damage seemed to take as low a priority for the military as it was for the insurgents.
