Rhino Beetle?

Featured Replies

Last year on a trip to Chiang Dao we stopped to buy some fruit and one of the stalls was selling beetles. People buy them for pets. Has anyone ever had a pet beetle? Although not particularly cuddly they do seem to be a rather low maintenance pet. I don't think the two pictured are Rhino beetles so maybe someone can identify them.

My wife's brother used to bring home these beetles as a kid she tells me.

Snakes, chipmunks,a monkey one time, anything chatuchak would sell him.

When the wife was young she and her friends would by these beetles and fight them against each other. Apparently they put on quite a show and not as messy as cock fighting.

They use them for fighting apparently:

It's a Rhino beetle as it has the 3 horns. The stag beetle only has the 2 (mandible) horns.

They live only one season, mate and die... called "guang" in thai... cool critter.
