Thailand promises South Korea of its sustainable economic growth

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has drawn satisfaction from South Korean businessmen when he outlined the government's economic reform plan that will bring sustainable economic growth to the country.

Somkid met leading South Korean investors in Seoul during the “Thailand Moving Forward to Sustainable Growth’ event, which was organized by the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) to draw more investment from South Korea to Thailand.

He told the Korean potential investors that the Thai government is undertaking the reform to strengthen the domestic economy amid the global economic slowdown.

The reform should help the Thai economy expand by 3-3.5 percent year on year, he said.

Somkid, who is paying a working visit to South Korea from March 21-24, said the economic reform encompasses all industries including automotive, electronics, tourism and technology.

He said reform in the automotive sector focuses on future automotive technologies while the country wants to cooperate with China, Japan and South Korea on development of smart city.

On the tourism front, the reform focuses on improving health and ecotourism businesses, he said.

He said the government supports robotic and biochemical technology industries and is speeding up basic infrastructure development, including electric trains and ports to make Thailand a gateway to CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam).

With these basic infrastructures, the deputy prime minister said South Korean investors in Thailand could deliver their goods to these ASEAN countries more conveniently.

I love that this was posted 4 minutes after a previous report entitled "Economic Growth Forecast to be Trimmed".

I don't believe because all the economic figures suggest otherwise. The truth is that Thailand is in a major decline!

translation:

we are going to build a train like in 1865.

then Korea, a country Thailand has nothing in common with, can deliver its super high tech products to other counties in the area.

The headline is missing one important phrase, ' Trust Us We're Thai '. cheesy.gif

if you were from Korea and had to spend all day explaining to Thais who don't speak English that a flat screen TV does not use magic to work, you would be unhappy too. :)

Good one...clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

The meeting over, Korean delegates reconvened at a watering hole near Sukhumvit Soi 15, for a few beers and some reminiscing.

Chalk and cheese!

Just getting weirder and wierder...

Meanwhile, in the real world...coffee1.gif

That might be the case if the meeting was in Bangkok and not Seoul!

They can make the numbers fit any audience they are talking to.

economy expand by 3-3.5 percent year on year

And in the Real World -

In a recent survey conducted by the Faculty of Economics of the Dhurakij Pundit University of entrepreneurs in Thailand, most of the respondents or 78% of respondents thought that their situation either worsened or barely changed.

Sad to see Somkid now grasping for good economic news.

That would help those bars out and put Thailand back in the black. Now if they all went to Nana after that we have an increase in GDP.

Good catch!
