An assistant village head killed in front of his house

PATTANI: -- An assistant village headman was shot dead in front of his house in Pattani’s Mayor district on Sunday by a gunman.

The victim, identified as Mr Torsa Benyunus, 53, an assistant village head of Ban Krasor in Mayor district, was laying floor tiles in front of his house when the gunman approached him and fired several shots into him at point-blank range with a pistol.

Eyewitnesses told police that the gunman arrived at Mr Benyonus’s house with three other accomplices riding in two motorcycles. They sped away from the shooting.

Police suspected that the victim was shot dead by an insurgent or he might have been mistaken as an informer by a drug trafficking gang following a drug bust two days ago.
