By Tiffany Ap, CNN

(CNN)Australian actor Hugh Jackman may be known internationally for his roles as a superhero in the X-Men film series, but on Saturday he was doing some real life rescuing at Sydney's Bondi Beach.

When several swimmers became caught in a strong riptide, including his teenage son Oscar, he was filmed helping to retrieve them.

Hugh Jackman thanked for Bondi Beach rescue role

SYDNEY: -- X-Men star Hugh Jackman has been thanked for helping his children and other swimmers after they got caught in a rip current at Sydney's Bondi Beach.

Australia's Nine News showed footage of Saturday's incident, with Jackman helping pull his daughter from the water with the help of another swimmer.

Lifeguards then helped bring Jackman's teenage son to safety after he got into difficulties due to the strong current.

Rich actor, but he has remained normal; compared to other Hollywood types. Good job Wolverine.

Good on Hugh, being a celeb it attracts the media of course. I know quite a few surfers who have saved swimmers on unpatrolled beaches, I've even pulled a few out myself, just another day at the beach in Oz.

Good on him but it's a bit like thanking a fireman that put out a fire that he started himself.

So, he went out to save his kids, better than letting them drown, but hero?

Good on him but it's a bit like thanking a fireman that put out a fire that he started himself.

Not really, nothing like it at all. He's an actor, not a life guard at that beach. You think HJ started the rip tide???

Any guy that can produce steel blades from his knuckles, can kill vampires,as a haircut with ears.and can leap 15 foot into the air whilst getting it on with Famke Janson,is good enough for me.

What a hero, he took over his own daughter after another swimmer pulled her out of the tide.

Look Hugh is a good bloke sure but according to Aussie news the only people caught in the rip were his kids and the only person he assisted was the bloke who had already saved his daughter, but hell what does the truth matter? This is TV and he is wolverine.
