Turatao / Koh Lipe to Langkawi

Featured Replies

Hello, i am wondering if there are any possibilities to reach Langkawi Island from Lipe or around Tarutao / Satun area.

I am planning to go down south from Phuket few days, driving around with stops in Lanta, then Trang.. Satun and then heading to the island of Lipe. Looking that Langkawi is not far, I am looking if it will be possible to make a hop there for few days and then head back to Thailand. I will most probably leave my car close to the pier before leaving for the islands.

There might be some boats links between the Thai islands and the Malaysian ones?

Last time I was snorkeling off Langkawi ( 8 years ago ? ) the corel was bleached white and dead. Sea temperature was up about 1C, the fish had gone the sharks had gone. Don't know if it has recovered. I hope so.

The ferry sounds like a nice way to get there, you could also go on to Penang.

Enjoy !

two things:

1. the group of islands immediately across the harbor from Langkawi offer some excellent diving with beautiful coral etc. Confirmed by several visits during the past year.

2. The Koh Lippe -> Langkawi ferry is OK but costs far more than Satun->Langkawi, which is 300 baht, 3 trips/day.

Thanks. Well, I will see how it is. I have been in South East Asia for quite a long time now, leaving in Thailand since 1991 and always thinking to go visit Langkawi but didn't so far. As I have this plan to go down to the south, visit the Tarutao national park, Koh Lipe and this group of islands, that could be an occasion for me to include Langkawi as well during this trip.

Yes, I know, I could go also through Penang but as mentioned, I will be driving from Phuket to Satun, then going to the islands.
