webfact Posted April 7, 2016 Share Posted April 7, 2016 BMA campaigns for alcohol-free SongkranBANGKOK, 8 April 2016 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing to organize citywide celebrations for the Songkran Festival without alcohol consumption.Bangkok Deputy Governor Pusadee Tamthai announced the BMA’s readiness to hold the annual festivities for Songkran in all 50 districts of the capital. This year, she said the campaign will seek to encourage revelers to help save water and to refrain from drinking, nudity, use of high-pressure water guns and use of talcum powder.According to the Deputy Governor, a campaign is also being launched on the popular Khao San Road to invite public members and tourists to take part in the water play while assuring them of their safety.Moreover, authorities are being sent out to restaurants, markets and train stations to inspect the safety of food being offered to people during the festive period. -- NNT 2016-04-08 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Driving whilst drinking and excessive drinking can cause problems, agreed. Moderation is the key and let people enjoy themselves and stop treating everyone like retards. Here is the statistic for accidents during Songkran in Thailand for last 3 years. What a joke. That is my biggest beef with Songkran. I get bass pounded for 3 solid days. Guess I can phone the Tourist Police on this one and they will take care of it.
