BMA campaigns for alcohol-free Songkran

BANGKOK, 8 April 2016 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing to organize citywide celebrations for the Songkran Festival without alcohol consumption.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Pusadee Tamthai announced the BMA’s readiness to hold the annual festivities for Songkran in all 50 districts of the capital. This year, she said the campaign will seek to encourage revelers to help save water and to refrain from drinking, nudity, use of high-pressure water guns and use of talcum powder.

According to the Deputy Governor, a campaign is also being launched on the popular Khao San Road to invite public members and tourists to take part in the water play while assuring them of their safety.

Moreover, authorities are being sent out to restaurants, markets and train stations to inspect the safety of food being offered to people during the festive period.

Why does the BMA have to force their conservatives onto everyone. Drinking alcohol in moderation is not evil or damaging. Driving whilst drinking and excessive drinking can cause problems, agreed. Moderation is the key and let people enjoy themselves and stop treating everyone like retards.

Amplifying music. What a joke. That is my biggest beef with Songkran. I get bass pounded for 3 solid days. Guess I can phone the Tourist Police on this one and they will take care of it.
