Hello, long time, no see.

I've been asked to teach a special class for gifted students.

There is some sort of Government test for those wishing to go on to M.4 in advanced programs or best schools, that what they say!

I've got no idea about the name of the exam. I'd like to know the format and get some sample questions and guide books. The English portion only.

Cheers and thanks for any advice.

It's my understanding that many M3 students who wish to change schools must take another test- they can usually stay in the same program without further testing (since they were deemed suitable when they entered) but if they want to go to a "better" school they have to take tests for that school. I thought the test depended on the school- wasn't aware of a general governmental test- anybody else have more info?

It is rumored to be like the Entrance Exam, which is for M.6's, but this one for M.3's. Not to be confused with school specific such as for Chaing Mai University. Perhaps the same group which produces the entrance exam? Do you know who that is? Maybe they have a web-site and I can search it and/or contact them.

Thanks. Susan

It's a national test and has been given for years. I know there is also at least one of the primary grades that also take a test.

They use them to compare students levels in different parts of the conntry. It lets the kids know how they compare with other kids at their school, province and nationally.

There are also tests, also done nationally, done by private outfits that students have to pay a modest fee to take. These are voluntary, which I would think would usually have mostly better students taking them. Why would a poor student (grade wise) volunteer to take a test on a day off if they didn't have to?

Then you have the tests already mentioned above. These are tests to get into M4 at different schools. I don't think they are standardized, as I've helped write the English portion at a school I used to work at.

Just because a student goes to a school in M3 doesn't always mean they don't have to take a test for M4. In M4 they have different programs, such as science, math or Language. Each of the programs will have different specific courses the kids take. A typical science program will have the kids taking chemistry, biology and physics. In the language program they won't take any of those, but will have extra English or English and another foreign language such as French or Japanese.

Talk to the guidanc teacher at your school. They should have some general info about the tests that will be helpful to you.
