Mother Nature Founder Barred From Entering Cambodia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered immigration officials to ban Mother Nature activist Alejandro Gonzalez-Davidson from entering the country, saying that the E-visa granted to him was merely a technical error.

Mr. Davidson-Gonzalez, known as Alex, was blacklisted by the government after being arrested and deported in February last year for campaigning against the Areng Valley hydropower dam as well as sand dredging in Koh Kong province.

Despite being deported, the Koh Kong provincial court charged him in absentia for threatening to cause destruction last August.

Mr. Davidson-Gonzalez was summoned by an Appeals Court on April 5 and he has tried to appeal to Prime Minister Hun Sen for help in re-entering Cambodia.

A letter sent last Friday to Sok Phal, Director General of Immigration, from Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Long Visalo, said that because the system controlling blacklisted people for E-visa’s faltered with no signal reported, the E-visa office issued a visa to Mr. Davidson-Gonzalez last Wednesday.
