Travelling by air domestically with a Thai child with no id (5 years old)

Featured Replies

Hi I am having trouble getting clear information on what is required to check in and board a domestic flight in Thailand

When travelling with a 5 year old Thai child (my niece) she has no ID

I have heard no requirement

I have heard need birth certificate

I Have heard need signed document from a parent

Parents wont be travelling with child

I am returning her from Bangkok to Udon Thani

Any accurate help would be appreciated

I have tried ringing the airline in my home country and they dont know

I am not in Thailand until a few days before this flight

You need her birth certificate as I.D. not sure about permission from parent though.

If you want to be sure go with the parents to their Tessaban and ask for an official letter from them allowing you to travel with the child. Together with the birth certificate you should have no problems.

I think you better plan a bus or minivan trip instead. Else the parents will have to mail you the birth certificate and as extra they can include a letter that says they are ok with it.

Even if someone on the phone says it is ok, it is the person at the gate that decides.
