BANGKOK: -- Phra Dhammachayo’s lawyer today (Wednesday) submitted a petition seeking justice from Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya over the Department of Special Investigation’s summons for the abbot of Wat Dhammakaya to acknowledge the charges against him.

Mr Samphan Sermcheep claimed that, according to the law, Phra Dhammachayo can twice postpone a meeting with the DSI to acknowledge the charges.

The first appointment with the DSI was postponed and the second is due on April 25. The charges include conspiracy in money laundering and accepting stolen items in connection with the monk accepting cheques worth tens of million baht from Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, former chairman of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives.

The lawyer said that Phra Dhammachayo has not yet decided whether to report himself to the DSI on April 25 or not but he would discuss the matter with the enquiry officers in charge of the case this coming Friday.

Mr Samphan claimed that Phra Dhammachayo is busy throughout the month because he has many engagements that he has to attend to.

DSI director-general Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, meanwhile, said he is yet to be contacted by the lawyer about the appointment to acknowledge the charges.

This guy can just keep making these excuses for not meeting the DSI about his actions. I don't understand why the DSI doesn't just go arrest him and confiscate everything to aid in their prosecution. To think that he is still on the streets collecting money and other gifts says a lot about Thai Buddhism. And none what's being said is good.

Too busy to report. Totally laughable. The DSI needs to grow some cojones.

What a legal system, or rather so called legal system.

Lawyer : " The abbot has checked his appointments diary and may, just may, in the very distant future be able to fit the DSI in but don't hold your breath. The abbot is a VIP and heaven forbid he doesn't get special treatment, just what's this country coming to ? "

He has too many friends in high places. This has been going on for how many years? A former Supreme Patriarch tried to get him dis-robed to no avail.
