Two senior education officials sacked by CSC subcommittee

BANGKOK: -- Former secretary-general of the Basic Education Commission Mr Chinnapat Phumirat and former director of the Personnel Administration Development and Legal Affairs Mr Krai Katethun have been ordered sacked by a subcommittee of the Civil Service Commission.

The two senior education officials were found to have committed gross disciplinary violations in connection with the recruitment of teachers and educational personnel which was found to be not transparent.

Education Minister Dapong Rattanasuwan said Thursday that there was no evidence of corruption against Mr Chinnapat but the latter was found to have failed to perform his duty properly in a way which has caused damages to the state.

For instance, the minister said that Mr Chinnapat did not scrap the qualifying tests for teachers recruitment after he had received report that there might be cheats in the tests. And when cheats were eventually confirmed Mr Chinnapat immediately ordered the test papers destroyed immediately despite the regulation that the papers must be kept at least two years, he added.

Minister Dapong, however, said that the two officials could appeal against the CSC subcommittee’s ruling within 30 days.

Mr Chinnapat admitted that he was unaware of his sacking. However, he said he would study the ruling first before deciding whether to appeal or not.

being in a sitting position must be

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh cool. Now Thailand "to be" the education hub of Asia; maybe the world.

...stage 4 cancer.....

Appeal- reinstated and moved

gross disciplinary violations in connection with the recruitment of teachers and educational personnel which was found to be not transparent.

Rather similar to the recruitment of relatives to officer posts in the RTA which is marked secret and is not transparent?

At least these teachers had to appear to go through an examination and appraisal process, even if it was rigged!

They should all be sacked. One of the highest budgets per capita in the world, with one of the worst results.

"...failed to perform his duty properly in a way which has caused damages to the state."

What's missing - some focused critical comment about:

- The ultimate damage to Thai education

- The damage to the future opportunities of many Thai children

- The damage to the overall development of Thailand.

- The fact that these senior officials condone cheating (this was a massive scam with lots of people involved: the local organizers and the people taking the exams) and there can be little doubt plenty of other education people were well aware of what was happening, therefore the senior officials have no credibility to comment of order actions or discipline about other aspects of cheating in schools, at all levels.

Rotten to the core.

If only there was a way to sideline the first 4 or 5 levels of this ministry and the mafia involved, charge those involved in corruption, etc., and get them in jail, never allowed to return, and install new well respected and qualified educators well protected from mafia.

Maybe they let the side down by having qualifications they actually earned.

Even with the hiring of non qualified teachers for the "phony" international schools .The students are getting a much more education "sometimes" then the Thai, cheat and or copy, ,sure to pass education system.
