BANGKOK: -- What makes people happy? Long holidays? A wage rise? According to a recent poll, Ratchanok Intanon becoming the world’s top-ranked badminton star is what makes Thais happy.

The 21-year-old Thai also became the first female player to capture three Superseries (top tier) titles in a row earlier this month.

The Suan Dusit Poll was carried out on 1,286 people throughout the country from April 18-23.

Suan Dusit Poll...say no more!

Anything that helps em bury their heads in the sand.

Well done and all, but really?

When you've got nothing and not much of a future, it's a scary thought that a fellow Thai being ranked number 1 for badminton brings you genuine happiness.

It's as if you're living in a bubble.

1282 people are happy thats great, good on her,

my rugby team lost so i am not happy

Perhaps, but this has zero to do with the junta. Prayut is actually taking happiness from the people.

After reading the O.P. this little ditty came to mind.

"Ratchanok Intanon becoming the world’s top-ranked badminton star is what makes Thais happy."

Not quite what Buddha taught about the path to happiness and self-fulfillment .

And she fully understands and supports the road map

I like how this country is about returning happiness to the ppl, happy endings ...

Bravo - you've made the day for this exiled Somerset lad!

gotta look on the bright side sometimes. not so many bright options these days in thailand.

Well; at least she will bring happiness to some people, unlike the cruds who are running the country right now or any of those 'Politicians' some would like to replace them with !

...like every Chinese is happy and smiling all day long because they are the No.1 Ping Pong Nation.

....great....now we have 60 million-plus 'superstars' to deal with....

I can understand that Thai people are proud ( enough to be happy ? ) of her , she is very good , but is she the best in the world ? in 2014 and 2015 , the world champion was Spanish , Carolina Marin, first western woman to beat Asian stars

have you ever seen badminton competition, even with women ? very impressive, fast and athletic !

Good on her, national pride- congratulations on winning. clap2.gif

Unhappiness returns...

[bADMINTON] Ratchanok Intanon’s world No.1 status is likely to be shortlived following the shock 21-17 16-21 17-21 defeat of the defending champion to unseeded Japanese Sayaka Sato which forced the fourth-seeded Thai to crash out from the second round of the US$200,000 Dong Feng Citroen Badminton Asia Championships 2016 in Wuhan, China on Thursday.
