Working committees established to fight illegal fishing

BANGKOK, 4 May 2016 (NNT) – The Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) has established three working committees to addressing legal issues and complaints regarding illegal fishing, pending the release of issue manuals as operational guidelines.

The CCCIF Spokesman Vice Admiral Chumpol Lumpikanon has revealed that the CCCIF is now publishing a fishery manual to be distributed to fishermen and related personnel as reference and operational guideline.

He said the CCCIF has established three working committees to address the general public's complaints regarding local fishing, commercial fishing, and legal implications.

The CCCIF spokesman has further stated that the center has been expediting the national fisheries operation plan to solve the illegal fishing issue in a systematic basis, according the European Union's advice.

Related agencies have been appointed to work on 65 agendas towards the enforcement of international fisheries law. To combat illegal fishing, the center has already enacted 49 laws, with 4 laws under the process of enactment.

The CCCIF is also working on the establishment of provincial committees, and overseeing the operations of 28 Maritime Enforcement Coordination Centers, according to the spokesman.

Nothing like a good chuckle in the morning and this articles split my sides. Thank you.

I thought they had a policy for this ,close eyes and prosecute whistle blowers

Just how do you expect the Navy to do anything, they don't have any submarines?

Obama cannot say radical islam and the little general cannot say human trafficking or slavery. If it were on a farm instead at sea would it be illegal farming because they use slave labor? It is not the farming or the fishing that is illegal, it is the forced labor practices that is illegal.

Too busy with people smuggling

'working' committies, depends on how you read it.

This flurry of "activity" by the Thai authorities is occurring as an extended deadline from the EU approaches. The EU gave Thailand 6 months to improve back in January, and has communicated their preliminary assessment that the Thai government has not done enough. Now with little time to implement and document real actions, the Thai's are busy creating promises of future action.

As some have suggested, the EU (and the US) appear unwilling to pull the trigger on real sanctions.

I would guess they (EU/US) will wait to assess the conduct and outcome of the Charter referendum. There is not a lot to be gained by forcing the Thai economy into the crapper. The Junta would use sanctions as a platform for nationalism and the necessity for maintaining complete military control in a time of crisis.

Ummmmm, it's been some time now. Will that make a difference?

And move a little closer to the big C perhaps.
