Pramon Sutheewong opposes the use of Section 44 to sack city governor

BANGKOK: Independent Anti-Corruption Organisation chairman Pramon Sutheewong has voiced his objection against any suggestion that Section 44 of the Interim Constitution should be invoked to sack Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

He said Friday that the embattled governor should be given a fair treatment as he denied any wrongdoing regarding the controversial light tunnel project.

The matter should be handled through normal legal process, he said, adding however that the matter should be made much easier if the governor chose to call it quits.

The Office of the Auditor-General has faulted the City Hall for misusing its central fund for the project which should have been used for necessary projects. It also ruled that the project was overpriced.

Meanwhile, Mr Prayong Preeyachit, secretary-general of the Government Sector’s Anti-Corruption Commission said it was proven that the governor was at fault for the project, the OAG could ask Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha to invoke the special law to sack the governor.

Former Democrat MP Boonyod Sukthinthai, meanwhile, said that the matter should be handled through normal legal process and the case should be submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Sukhumbhand seems to have made a couple of enemies amongst his team......should have shared the spoils around a little further!

Sukhumbhand seems to have made a couple of enemies amongst his team......should have shared the spoils around a little further!

He misused funds, gave the contract to a company with no expertise in lighting, and awarded the contract before anything was signed. The company was buying supplies even before bids went out.

Dodgy for sure. Now he says he'll sue anybody who says he did wrong. Thainess.

And add:

- The lightshow is static and therefore very large numbers of people have no access to it.

- It has no real connection to New Year.

- It's an extravagance Bangkok can't afford.

- The main budget was not enough so he took a large amount of money from the emergency fund which should be strictly kept for disasters, folks in dire need etc.

This guy is off his tree, time to move along and quickly please.

The untouchables wink.png

As slippery as an eel.

Not the first case demonstrating his incompetence and corrupt administration.

The dems desperately need to do a lot of work to get their act together and look like act like a credible, honest sincere government.

Publicly dumping this guy would help.

This tree is deep rooted in the system. Its power vs power locking horns. The governor will scare off all serious threats by using the slander law and threaten to sue people. Donald Trump has used this threatening gesture for years. Its all threats and publicity. Its a great club.
