Khao Talu wildfire raging in Chumphon

CHUMPON: -- Wildfire again erupted at a mountainous areas in Sawee district of Chumphon in the South and is still raging and spreading today, forcing local authorities to quickly construct fire lines to control it.

The wildfire broke out yesterday at Khao Talu mountain has already destroyed more than 500 rai of durian, coffee, rubber, and palm plantations.

Despite the raging fire, smoke from the fire has now spread to cover three subdistricts in the area, including Khao Ta Lu, Khao Kai, and Na Sak.

The wildfire flames could be visible at a distance of over 10 kilometre.

District officials now are joining local farmers to hurriedly construct fire lines to keep the fire from spreading into their farms.

Sawee district chief, in the mean time, has ordered authorities to be on the lookout for landslides and to be on extra alert for the spreading of the smoke, as the latter could cause health problems, while also reiterating that evacuation sites must be prepared just in case.

Khao Ta Lu is known as an important archaeological site where a large quantity of human skeletons, dating back thousands of years were found. The location is also popular among tourists for ecotourism.

I was going to say that's near our coffee farms and then I saw the photo... That photo could have been taken from our farms! We're exactly opposite that hole in mountain thing! A phone call or two needed!
