webfact
Authorities seek to charge culprits behind Doi Suthep forest fireCHIANG MAI, 10 May 2016 (NNT) – Doi Suthep-Pui National Park authorities have filed charges against people responsible for a fire that started in the area of Doi Kun Chang Kian on May 9 while dispatching helicopters to help resolve the blaze.Authorities from throughout Chiang Mai have joined in an effort to end a fire in the Doi Suthep-Put National Park area with Department of Natural Resources and Environment contributing 3 helicopters, which will carry out over 20 water dumps to quell flames in remote areas. The fire in many areas has shown signs of subsiding and smoke has begun to retreat in many locations.Meanwhile, forest preservation agents have submitted satellite information to police in the hopes of apprehending those responsible for the fire, saying the culprits likely lit blazes to herd animals they were hunting. They have asked the public to come forward with any pertinent information.Similarly, peat swamp fires in Narathiwat province are ongoing and have consumed over 350 Rai. Authorities in the area have said their efforts to fight the blaze have been impeded by strong winds and dry conditions, which have allowed the flames to jump fire barriers. More than 100 people have been affected by haze generated by the fire.-- NNT 2016-05-

jaltsc
"Doi Suthep-Pui National Park authorities have filed charges against people responsible for a fire that started in the area of Doi Kun Chang Kian..." Let's see how many fires there are next burning season, and then then tell me how effective the government's actions are. If gambling were legal in Thailand, I'd bet my entire savings that there will be no reduction in overall burning.
phoenixdoglover
A bit ahead of yourselves, guys. If you want to charge the culprits, it would help if you identified and apprehended them first. Cue: We know who they are, And The investigation is 80% complete. Followed by silence.
arunsakda
Why no prosecution of the other open burning in the North ongoing for months already? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
masuk
There has been smoke on Doi Suthep for a few weeks, and it seemed obvious that fires were being lit, before they got out of control. Early action by authorities would have been helpful, rather than complaining after things became worse. A few helicopter dumps on the early fires might have solved the problem. klauskunkel
turns out the culprits are the son of a police sub-lieutenant, a second-rated soap opera stand-in actress and one of the lesser heirs (second cousin, twice removed) to Mama Noodles..., so the police proactively let them go without charges in order not to overburden the Justice System. For what it's worth, they all ordained in the monkhood short-time program for a weekend (the one where you don't have to shave your head). That's all, folks. wabothai
It's all OK as long as no houses or wats are being threatened. They simply don't care who ever they are.
