A young engineer has captured hearts nationwide by presenting a dowry matching the bride's weight, totalling 120 baht of gold, in a unique and touching ceremony held yesterday in Pathum Thani.

Kriangkrai Kadsa, affectionately known as Joe, led a jubilant parade to formally propose to Kewalin Kitiwan, also known as Annie. The celebration took place at the bride’s family home in Pathum Thani, after they moved from Kamphaeng Phet. Joe, his parents, Suban and Sawaree Chaipring, made the journey from Khon Kaen to participate in this joyful event.

The ceremony, commencing precisely at 9.09am, was rich with traditional customs. Beloved friends and family members adorned symbolic gates with gold and silver belts, gold necklaces, and even incorporated tent ropes and chair sashes, creating an atmosphere of festivity and goodwill. Joe generously distributed red envelopes as tokens of appreciation to all participants.

Dignitaries and notable figures from both communities graced the wedding, underscoring the respect and love both families enjoy. Among the guests was renowned singer Biew Pongphipat, or Biew The Star, who offered his heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds.

The most anticipated moment was the revelation of the dowry, a closely guarded secret until it was unveiled. Joe's dowry included 120 baht of gold—about 1,800 grams—as well as gold jewellery, two diamond rings totalling three carats, and 400,099 baht in cash, symbolising his steadfast love and commitment.

Joe and Annie, who have been friends since their school days, saw their bond deepen into love over time. Both pursued engineering careers and decided to formalise their relationship. Joe's gesture of matching Annie's weight with an equivalent amount of gold was a personal and heartfelt tribute, affirming his sincere affection for her.

The event struck a perfect balance between cherished traditions and individual expressions of love, leaving an indelible memory for all attendees. The joyous atmosphere echoed with laughter, promises, and the anticipation of a bright future for the loving couple.

They would need to stand a long way back to get her all in frame.

That's more than double my wife's weight.

Total stupidity. Time this nonsense was legally stopped. Hopefully just for show, and the money and gold will be given back to the newly weds.  Close on 4.5 million baht, which will give them a good step on the housing ladder.

Why is it stupid?

Why should it be “legally stopped”?

You married?

So you don’t know what it is.

Are you married to a Thai woman?

Sad and pathetic.

Not to mention it basically makes the man out to be a chump from the get go, which won’t turn out well. Women hate that <deleted>

Happily married for 20 years with three teenage children. And when they marry I won't be asking for Sin Sot. It's outdated.

PS. I was asked for a dowery but I refused to pay.

This is putting a price on the woman, which makes others who get married here, especially foreigners, look cheap as their thinking revolves around how much money a foreigner gives his woman. One husband gives his wife (family) , especially foreign husbands, a lot of money and all the others that know this family will think this is what all husbands should do. This travels down to all locals, and is why they think we're all rich. Taking care of your wife and kids is all that's necessary to be a good husband. It has nothing to do with money as all the millionaire's divorces can attest.

You better have that conversation with the mom as well. Cause I'll bet she will be charging max for daughters. I know mine will.

Decent families do give the dowry to the couple to start out their life together

only parents form certain region/class expect payday from the wedding

26 years together here. 2 kids. No dowry paid when married, and no dowry needed or paid when my kids marry  (best they just live together). Whats the point of a certificate costing a small fortune?  Love and happiness cost nothing!!!!!!

Is it a coincide that the country which gives brides gold and pays off the parents with cash also has world famous infidelity rates? Thai men are notorious mommy's boys too, maybe another connection there?

Thai Marriage cert does not cost a small fortune it's about 100b max.

Plus if she was to marry a falang especially under 50 he will need that to stay here on a marriage extension.

It's the opposite in India the Bride's family gives it to the Groom's family.

Oh why did I not marry an Indian Lady.............😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢 The food would be better too. :cheesy::cheesy:

It's almost funny when lots of farangs, who decided to live in Thailand, tell us all what Thais should do and not do.

Do you think Thais will listen? Thanks, farang, for you great advise. Thanks that you teach us how to live. Really?

And then there are of course those foreigners who want to live in our home countries. Bastards! They just don't listen. And some have this attitude that they coitizes the way we live and our tradition. Throw them all out! Scum of the earth. How dare they do that.

Now, do you notice a little discrepancy?

Wonder if she tried to eat as much as possible before he bought the gold 🤔

Being an engineer must pay well at an early age it seems also.

My wife's family did that with her sister, gave the dowry and the money from the party to them which helped them buy a house. My wife and I  didn't have a party as it was close behind her sisters and her father didn't think it was right for people to pay twice so close. Then again we didn't pay a dowry. Some families are good. Oh and my wife according to thai tradition was dowry qualified plus has a degree.

Yes 21 years, and her parents refused a dowry... just asked me to take good care of their daughter.

One wonders how a "young" engineer was able to amass such a fortune, when the average monthly wage not so long ago was about 9,000 baht.

I doubt those citizens barely surviving economically will be feeling love and fuzzies for the couple.

Just a warning to those who intend to marry a Thai. You have to remember she's more than likely damaged goods and that negates Sin Sot.

Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore. In fact in most of these instances, no dowry deserves to be paid.

Be difficult to fit all of her in the frame. Have to use wide or maybe panoramic mode🤣
