Education Ministry to help schoolgirls who survive dormitory fire in Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, 26 May 2016, (NNT) - Deputy Education Minister Surachet Chaiwong visited Chiang Rai province to inspect the dormitory which was burned down in a fire, killing 17 schoolgirls and injuring five others.

The blaze occurred at the dormitory of Pithakkiat School in Wiang Pa Pao district, Chiang Rai, in the night of May 22.

He visited the injured to give them morale support and said that the Ministry of Education will scramble to find accommodations for the schoolgirls.

Those who wish to give donations to the fire victims can transfer money to the Special Administration Center’s bank account number 012-3-98314-9, account name: Help Fire Victims in Wiang Pa Pao district, Kasikorn Bank, Tha Pae branch, Chiang Mai, or the bank account number 984-5-08105-3, account bank name: Help Fire Victims from Phithakkiat School, Wiang Pa Pao district, Chiang Rai, Krung Thai Bank, Wiang Pa Pao branch.

People can also directly donate money at Wiang Pa Pao District Office.

"Deputy Education Minister Surachet Chaiwong...He visited the injured to give them morale (sic) support and said that the Ministry of Education will scramble to find accommodations for the schoolgirls."

Typical. What would happen in a more responsible society, is that he, his superiors and everyone else in the education ministry would be fired and brought up on charges for dereliction. They would be tried for not implementing and enforcing adequate safety codes for all schools under their control, and thus be responsible for the deaths of the students.

However, here in Thailand, the Ministry of Education makes no apologies for not doing its job of providing a safe and healthy environment for students, and will scramble to find the survivors accommodations. Scramble is the perfect term::"To scramble is to move quickly in a disorganized fashion." It appears that the Ministry of Education is quite proficient in scrambling. Unfortunately, many innocent lives were lost due to their disorganization.

As for the donations by the public. What guarantee is there that all the money will reach the intended recipients?

a case of shutting the door after the horse has bolted?

...why don't they do something to the irresponsible scum that left them unattended...

...'went for a shower'....what a load of crock....

...a nation of.... 'ne'er do wrong-ers'....

scramble to find accommodation, that's it! How about setting up a scholarship for each of them to ensure that they are given a proper free education including university!
