Windows 10 Live Tiles

Has anyone found a solution to the problem that works for everyone or are we waiting for an MS patch?

Yes, what problem? I got Win 10 running on two machines...no problems of any kind.

I've had some problems with Win 10, nothing with the tiles though. What kind of problem are you having?

It hit my PC last week. The character size change doesn't fix the problem permanently for many people and the driver corruption check doesn't work for anyone as far as I can see.

If you haven't tried already, try running the "sfc /scannow" Windows command which attempts to fix any system files corruption. SFC stands for System File Check. Maybe that's what you meant by running the Driver Corruption Check...if not, below is how to run the system files check command.

Right click on the Windows icon, select Command Prompt (Admin), then in the command window type "sfc /scannow" without the parentheses and press enter.

If it has never been run before it may take 30 minutes (or longer) to run depending on the speed of your machine. If it has been run below it should complete in 5 to 10 minutes. It's safe to run. It can fix issues. I periodically run it just for maintenance...in fact, I'm running as I write this...will wait a little longer before posting to see the results/provide a snapshot...OK, just finished...took about 5 minutes to run...no file integrity problems found. Notice I even typed the command incorrectly 3 times (had it reversed) but typing it correctly and it started running....my memory must be failing.

Not fixing other's problem doesn't mean it won't fix yours. Might ought to try it anyway, if just to rule it out. And the scan will probably pick up a couple of other issues if it hasn't been run before.

My start button and tiles stopped working after the last Windows 10 update. I read online to uninstall Dropbox and then reinstall. Solved the problem for me.

It's odd that different things have worked for different people, some of them temporarily others permanently. The oddest one is that some people have been able to change screen resolution from 135% to 100% and it fixed the problem!

Others strongly suspect it has something to do with account information. Me, I'm exploring whether outbound firewall rules have a role to play and also if use of Bitdefender Free is involved (Bitdefender Security 2015 was found to be a known cause).

I'll try the Dropbox reinstall. Ta!

EDIT: I don't have Dropbox installed (I thought it may have been part of W10) hence that's a non-starter.

I have that problem also. Missing tiles and unable to add or remove tiles. I ran the scan and it did nothing. I downloaded a program called Classic Shell that at least keeps me from having to look at the botched Windows 10 start menu. The original Start menu is still there and comes up with a single mouse tap.

You might want to Restore to a point just before the problem hit...see if the problem clears up. Now of course any updates that occurred after the point of time of the Restore Point would reload shortly afterwards. If the problem then reoccurs when a certain Windows upgrade/patch installs then at least you know what is probably causing the problem and may allow you to narrow down the googling for a fix. And if it was a MS update that caused the problem then maybe on the second install it installs properly and you don't have the problem anymore.

But since reverting to an earlier Restore Point in time doesn't always succeed (like just won't work and/or doesn't make things worst...or does succeed but makes things worst), I would recommend you do a image backup before attempting it. Reverting to a previous Restore Point sometimes helps, sometimes it don't.

The previous restore point is at the point of upgrade to W10, I don't want to go back to 8.

OK, so, it sounds like you recently upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10 and the upgrade came with glitches. I thought you had been running Win 10 for a while, because you would have several earlier Restore Points unless you have the System Protection (a.k.a., Restore Points) turn off/configured with low usage/storage space. And when I say Restore Point, I'm not talking like "Recovery" menu selection where you can revert to your earlier version of Windows.

But if you do have System Protection turned on be sure to click the "Show More Restore Points" selection other it may only show your latest Restore Point and not earlier ones you also may have. Like for me, unless I check the "Show More Restore Points" it only shows me one restore point which was the latest...it doesn't show the other two I could also choose from which were automatically made during Windows updates.
