ONCB establishes cooperation with Australian Federal Police

BANGKOK, 30 May 2016 (NNT) – The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has joined with the Australian Federal Police to cooperate against transnational drug crimes by forming a joint task force.

Minister of Justice Gen Paiboon Kumchaiya co-chaired a signing of a memorandum of understanding for the formation of the task force with the Australian Ambassador to Thailand. Thailand’s ONCB under the agreement will work with Australia’s national police force to develop anti-narcotics capabilities and combat drug trafficking.

The cooperation seeks to stop drugs as well as narcotics components from entering Thailand for production. The two offices will also work on treating drug addicts and share data on transnational drug rings.

The Australian police force has also signed on for cooperation with the Department of Special Investigations, ONCB and Royal Thai Police for a special task force against narcotics.

hopefully it is not only narcotics the AFP helps with, help keeping other types of aussie criminals out of the country.

Sounds like AFP outsourcing its responsibilities to Thailand (if its previous "cooperative" activities with Indonesia are anything to go by - http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/how-the-afp-trapped-the-bali-nine/story-e6frg6z6-1225910600831).

The AFP trained the Indonesian drug and terrorist enforcement to where they are today , and they both work in collaboration

There is in Thai the AFP , RMPC, FBI and Mi15 these are stationed at swampy ,and rotate in / out , the AFP had a presence in Chiang Mai for drugs and pedo activities but I think with budget cut backs, they most likely hang about swampy.

at least it is resource sharing, all they can do is fly the 'flag' and keep the pressure up.

All the info some wouldn't want to know. The AFP works mainly with the five eyes but collaborates with Indonesia , Singapore and Malaysia , so it is only sensible to get closer to Thai , for some time they have been in Thailand and have handled some cases that have been credited to the Thais, AFP also work closely with their Chinese counterparts and have made some big catches in recent years, the last only a few weeks back with a Chinese fishing boat loaded to the mainsails with Ice off the Geraldton coast....................................................coffee1.gif

The AFP Commissioner from 2001 to 2009, Michael (Mick) Keelty, had, for quite a number of years, a very close association with the RTP, and is highly respected by them. I'd has it as a guess that the respect and assistance he provided in the past was responsible for the laying of the foundations thus giving rise to the current situation.

When boarded the Chinese boat was NOT carrying drugs, they had been transported to shore on small craft. 2 homes were raided and 200kg of ice seized.

The "War on Drugs" has been an amazing success. It has made many drug peddlers as wealthy as Croesus. Has it stopped people taking drugs? I would have thought that Prohibition, which made the Mafia's fortune, would have provided a clue. There needs to be a better way.

Prohibition hasn't worked that's for sure and why would it when there is so much to be made in comparison to the risks involved. Why hasn't it worked, look at how the courts treat the scum who deal in death? If the Mr Bigs weren't so high up the food chain, protected and only the little fish are being dealth with, then why wouldn't they take the risk. You might get a few Mr Bigs who get caught but they're not the real smart ones. There needs to be a better way, but what, other than for giving them a dose of lead poisoning or the death sentence, if convicted, it will never end. And please don't say make it legal.
