Saturn to be clearly visible from June 3 to August

BANGKOK, 30 May 2016 (NNT) - The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has revealed that on June 3, the planet Saturn will come the closest to Earth during its orbit this year and will be visible to the naked eye as a bright yellow spot to the Southeast after sunset.

NARIT Deputy Director of the Saran Poshyachinda said Saturn will align itself directly opposite to the Sun and will be the closest distance to Earth this year at 1.35 billion kilometers. The planet and its rings will be clearly visible throughout the night near the Scorpius constellation from June 3 until August during the hours of 7:00pm to 4:00am.

In addition, Mars will also be visible to the Southeast. With a telescope, viewers will be able to clearly see the surface of the planet. The planet Jupiter will also be visible towards the West.

Now what is the likelyhood of clear skies to actually see it?, pollution, light pollution, humid air makes it almost impossible to see much of anything. Sadly

I like this news. More about space TVF! Of course this op will get less attention than the usual click bait ?

All right then, Saturn will be visible, and also Mars and Jupiter, but a lot of people out there may be asking if they can see Uranus.

Mars will be closest to earth it has been for 11 years, so in some countries you should be able to reach out and touch it. In thai I would like to see it but I hope the rain clouds keep over and it continues to rain or it is where I am, bucketed down last night.........................coffee1.gif .

I am pleased that NARIT has "revealed" that this is about to happen, for sure, nobody else would have known.

So happy that they have "revealed" this to the rest of the world.

I am sure that the Director observes it every day, but he covers it as required.

Edit....sorry promoted him, Deputy Director.

But then again, having given us this info, he may be the Director tomorrow.

Don't know where you live but I get some fantastic clear skies for observing the stars and planets. Kids really getting into it.

Over the last few years there have been many stunning images on the media of our solar systems planets surfaces. I haven`t found even one the remotest bit interesting. Just barren landscapes of rock, dust, gas clouds or ice and craters, more or less what was expected. No evidence that life ever existed or could exist on those planets or ever will. Except for our world the rest of our solar system is insignificant and why I won`t be out there straining my eyeballs trying to get a glimpse of Saturn.

...a case of 'watch this space'.

...the Hubble and other telescopes are facing the wrong way...they should turn them around and see the mess we've made down here.

So the rings of Saturn will be clearly visible? They will be - IF you have access to a telescope. Saturn will be approximately due south around midnight just now.

Ok, so tell us where you live, and then perhaps some of us will know where is the best place in LoS to view this planet ...
