Rice Dept to host National Day of Rice and Farmers event on June 3rd

BANGKOK, 31 May 2016 (NNT)-The Rice Department is preparing to host the National Day of Rice and Farmers from June 3rd – 5th in honor of His Majesty the King for his dedication to rice farmers.


Rice Department Director General, Anan Suwannarat said June 5th is being observed each year as Thailand’s National Day of Rice and Farmers. More than 60 million rai of land across the country is used to grow a variety of rice species.

There are 17 million rice farmers in Thailand at present. Rice is a major export product that generates an income of around 200 billion baht per year for the nation. The National Day of Rice and Farmers event will be divided into three different zones.

The first one will be an exhibition about the efforts of His Majesty the King and other members of the royal family regarding the development of Thai rice. An exhibition by the Rice Department will be organized in the second zone while farming technology will be showcased in the third area.

The event will run from June 3rd to 5th at the Rice Department. Similar events will be held in Lampang, Nakhon Ratchasrima and Nakhon Sri Thammarat provinces. On this special occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is scheduled to preside over the opening ceremony of the event on June 3rd at 2 p.m.
