Can i ask a simple question about the logistics of selecting a proposed 'Date Of Travel to the UK' ?

If we put the application into VFS at the end of JUNE, and say we want to travel SEPTEMBER 1st - two months later - will they start the Visa from SEPTEMBER 1st ?

(ASSUMING SUCCESS !). Or will they do something weird and start the visa on the day they make the decision ? - which could be a lot earlier obviously.

Lastly - when does the 30-day VIGNETTE start in this scenario ? (only just learned about this exotically-named complication)

THANKS in advance !

When my wife applied for settlement back in 2010, I just added three months on to the date of submission. Her application took over nine weeks to be granted and, sure enough, the visa wasn't valid until the date that I'd selected.

Still, it gave my wife a few weeks to get her affairs in order prior to leaving LOS for Blighty.

UK Visa for Wife

We sumitted application on Tuesday. Visitor visa was granted nrxt day. We used VIP slightly more expensive. The trick is to ensure all submitted paperwork is correct. They are looking to ensuure your finances are adequate to cover your stay and that you have a good reason to return to Thailand. Ie. You do not intend to stay in UK.

Things have changed a lot since then in a lot of ways.

Indeed, and not for the better in the main.

Though, my point stands. An application is still expected to be processed within three months.

A settlement visa is not a visitor's visa; the one should - and I emphasise should - be quite a bit quicker than the other. The embassy (consulate) did claim fifteen days, though I have had it done much quicker.

My Wife applied for a settlement visa earlier this year and it was processed, including delivery to Isaan, in 10 working days, No problem requesting a specific date.

The OP was quite explicit in that it was a settlement visa application. What you are going on about otherwise?
