PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 7 June 2016 (NNT) - The first Thai woman to have successfully conquered Mount Everest has received a warm welcome upon her return to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital.

Dr. Napassaporn Chumnarnsit was named the first Thai woman to have ever reached the summit of Mount Everest last month. After returning from Nepal, she was given a warm welcome from the hospital staff, including the Director of Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital, Dr. Niran Chantrakul.

Dr. Napassaporn expressed her gratitude to the Hospital Director and others who supported her financially so she could follow her dream and climb the world’s tallest mountain. She spoke about her experience, saying she felt small when she reached the summit. She said she was proud not because she was the first Thai woman to have completed the journey, but because she was able to do it for His Majesty the King.

Dr. Napassaporn has encouraged people to take action to make their dreams come true, declaring that success is always beautiful. Dr. Niran said he was proud of her because she has inspired everyone to follow their dreams.

well done....especially for a nation that wont even walk to the top of a street

Gotta chuckle......only one of the usual Thai Visa bitter armchair brigade would manage to turn a post about the fantastic achievement of a young woman climbing Everest into a smug dig at Thailand.......envy is a terrible thing :)

....has this great feat eluded the international news....???

When my ex- girlfriend, a hairdresser from Scotland, did the same climb a few years back at the age of 50, she too was feted in the local press.

Now, can you share your best personal life affirmation quest with us?

Something that an elderly Japanese woman first did in 1975 and hundreds of women since is not a fantastic achievement in my opinion. Everest is not the most difficult or dangerous climb it's just the highest. The amazing thing is that it took a Thai so long.

I think that at least two Everest 'climbers' have died very recently; within the past 2 weeks due to altitude sickness or complications arising from such? Neither of them were Thais BTW.

Maybe they are the smarter ones for avoiding such challenges.

Regardless of that, why is there a need to somehow devalue this unknown woman's personal experience and manipulate it to fit one's overall negative personal opinion of all things Thai? Note that the article clearly states she's the first Thai woman, not the first Thai person to have done the climb.

of course it has, it's not international news. on a global scale nothing special here, for thai's obviously it something special.

people from many countries climb Everest all the time, it was international news recently when climbing began again after a couple of years of no climbing.

Yes they have and three people have died on the roads in Thailand in the past hour or so. Personal challenge it may be but great achievement, never

Where in the original news story is it described as a "great achievement"?

Why is there a need to somehow devalue this unknown woman's personal experience and manipulate it to fit one's overall negative personal opinion of all things Thai?

No Thai I know has mentioned it- too busy eating and watching lakorn thumbsup.gif

Exactly. Because it's newsworthy in Prachuap Khiri Kha where she lives... and you don't.

Why is there a need to somehow devalue this unknown woman's personal experience and manipulate it to fit one's overall negative personal opinion of all things Thai?

I think the most difficult and dangerous mountain is the K2 ( second after Everest ), but climbing Everest is not for non climber people, many people have died in the past

congratulations to this woman, who lives at the sea level; I would be interested to know what is her experience of climbing, because you can't conquer a 8800 meters mountain just because you want it ; it needs training and big experience

According to Chris Bonnington Everest is not a difficult climb but it is dangerous due to the hidden crevasses on the way to the top. K2 is considered to be one of the technically most difficult climbs.
