Wat Dhammakaya accuses the DSI of rushing the case against its abbot to the prosecutors

BANGKOK: -- Wat Dhammakaya has accused the Department of Special Investigation of lacking professional ethics and of rushing the case against its embattled abbot, Phra Dhammachayo, to the public prosecution, in a suspicious manner.

The accusations were made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the temple apparently in response to the DSI’s submission of the criminal case against Phra Dhammachayo and four other individuals in connection with the alleged massive fraud in Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives to the public prosecution on Monday.

The five were charged with money laundering and/or receiving stolen properties.

In the statement, the temple claimed that the two rounds of talks by a special panel coordinated by Dr Somsak Toraksa, a legal advisor to chief monk of Pathum Thani province, regarding Dhammachayo’s surrendering to the DSI to acknowledge the criminal charges against him went on rather smoothly with the exception of one issue – that is the demand of the temple for the replacement of the chief of the enquiry officers handling the case against Dhammachayo.

Then out of a sudden on Monday, the DSI submitted the case to the public prosecution with a recommendation that Phra Dhammachayo and four other suspects be indicted in the court, said the statement, adding that the temple felt very upset with the DSI’s move and, hence, has lost faith in the agency for not keeping its promise and for not showing respect to the National Buddhism Office.

The temple also voiced his strong objection to the DSI’s decision to allow Dr Mano Laohavanich, an former aide of the embattled abbot and now a strong critic of the monk to join the meetings with the enquiry officers.

The DSI chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, meanwhile, rejected the temple’s demand for the replacement of the chief of the enquiry officers pointing out that the case against Phra Dhammachayo concern mostly written evidences and has nothing to deal with personalities.

He added that the DSI was investigating over 10 more money laundering cases which are connected with the fraud at Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives.

Talk about the Wat calling the kettle black.

All the abbot needs to do is to go to the DSI and acknowledge the charges against him.

The longer that he delays this by prevarication, obfuscation etc the more guilty he looks, whether he is innocent or guilty.

If he is innocent than he has nothing to lose.

If he is guilty of the charges laid against him then the worse it looks for him.

That's really turning things around shamelessly indeed. It's just grotesque.

This daily comedy is getting old, really. It really shows that the junta is really powerless against people with good connections and a bunch of lobotomized followers despite all their muscle.

Charges should be made in a timely fashion, "justice delayed is justice denied". An innocent person does not want a cloud of suspicion hanging over him. On the other hand a guilty person seeks to delay proceedings as long as possible. Assuming that the Abbot is innocent, he is receiving some very bad advice.

simple, just issue a wanted poster with a big reward, his own people will probably turn him in seeing money means so much to them. With all the bullsh*t they are throwing up to block him from being charged it is becoming obvious to everyone just how guilty he and the rest involved really are, not that any of us didnt realize this a lot earlier. They need to end this now and stop pussy footing around with this cretin, he needs to be put in jail where he belongs

Accusing the dsi of rushing the case.

Is that meant to be a joke?

Exactly the opposite dsi is pussy footing around like headless chickens.

Scared of a few monks, who have some hi-so friends.

Time for dsi to get moving, arrest him , charge him, let him have his day in court.

Good!!

And where's Prayuth and his army now? Probably out oppressing and hassling the wrong people, as usual. How can he turn a blind eye to this as the 'head' of the government?

The investigation is slow indeed.

At stolen money nobody can acquire the ownership.

The cooperation from the temple to solve the case is zero.

Why all the accounts of the temple and of the suspects are not immediately frozen?

you get a lot of idiots in orange robes but not many monks, I was always appalled by thai temples & the lazy & scamming people in them . Looks like the equally lazy & inept legal system will simmer this mess for usual face saving & bags of $ :-/ Thailand has turned into No1 world class joke . Sit back and have a giggle as it really not worth debating & certainly not worth investing in this ongoing joke country .

rushing? rushing? is he sane???

Prayuth is covering all the bases to rush this case might interfere with his reincarnation process.

...when will they put an end to this charade and just arrest him...and his cronies...

...they supposedly had enough evidence months ago....???

It shows nicely that you can take some guns and tanks and claim to be the leader of the country, but actually everything is being decided behind the curtains by other people.

Try to do this in North Korea or China, and see how quickly you (and your family) is in prison waiting to be executed.

Where is the billion baht that the other person ripped off from workers pension fund and who is now in prison?
