NLA representatives join parliamentary conference on the WTO

BANGKOK, 15 June 2016 (NNT) – A group of members of the National Legislative Assembly has taken part in a parliamentary conference on the World Trade Organization, held in Switzerland.

Second Vice President of the NLA Peerasak Porjit led a group of members of the legislature to join the parliamentary conference on the WTO, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland.

The topic set for discussion at the conference was “Trade for Development after Meeting in Nairobi” and NLA member Isara Vongkusolkit shared with the meeting his view, in which he said that the WTO’s inability to respond sufficiently to the problem of inequality during the past 20 years has negatively affected political and social stability.

Mr. Isara added that the WTO and all member countries need to focus on boosting physical and social infrastructure to help countries that still experience such shortcomings.

The NLA delegates also held talks with the Permanent Representative of Thailand to the WTO, Boonyarit Kalayanamit about preparations for the conference, which continues until June 16.
