Senators, Trump open to ban on some gun sales after Orlando

WASHINGTON: -- U.S. senators signaled on Wednesday a new willingness to consider restrictions on the sale of guns after the Orlando nightclub massacre, with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and others in his party ready to discuss limited gun control measures.

With Republicans and the National Rifle Association gun lobby under pressure to respond to the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, Trump said he would meet with the NRA to discuss ways to block people on terrorism watch or no-fly lists from buying guns.

Emotions have run high in Congress since Sunday's mass shooting with Democrats stalling Senate proceedings on Wednesday in a bid to push for tougher gun control legislation. Democratic senators planned to speak on the Senate floor well into Wednesday night.

What's Trump got to do with it? If Republicans are willing to consider restrictions, the current President is more than willing to listen.

Finally some outrage within the NRA controlled Republican party. You mean we might not get elected if we continue blocking gun control legislation? Wait, no more beloved assault weapons?

Okay, then here is the plan: Let the NRA write the absolute minimum of gun control legislation that we can point to and show how much we (don't) care.

guess trump assumes he has already won. i cant help that bringing in a firearms licencing system like we have in new zealand would be a good idea where every 5 years we are checked up on to make sure we should be allowed to posses firearms.

These killers very often intentionally target places they know are "gun free" zones..... so they will have the longest time possible to kill with no one to shoot back at them for quite a while.. The killer in Orlando had three hours of free time to literally kill..... .... because there were no law-abiding concealed carry citizens in the club to shoot back. The Pulse club was a declared "gun free" zone.

Correct if a person is on their way for a night out at a nightclub they should be carrying a semi automatic assault weapon at the very least with them. Locked and loaded and ready to fire at all times.

Gun free zones are the problem and people simply not being armed with the correct weapons to take on a potential attacker armed with a semi automatic assault weapon.

Europe is very close to the mideast and very accessible. Imagine what it would be like if terrorists could buy firearms as easily as they are bought in the USA. just because something bad happnened doesn't mean it couldn't be a whole lot worse.

Any bets on how quickly Trump will re-reverse his position? Given the poor state of his campaign organization, he can't afford to antagonize the NRA.

What could be worse than three killers armed with AK-47's and suicide bomb vests in a concert hall with hundreds of unarmed innocent people. If just five of those innocent people had been licensed law abiding trained hand gun shooters carrying concealed carry 9mm pistols, at least they would have had a chance to fight back. The shooters were standing on a balcony above the floor, and a few armed people in the crowd could have fired on the shooters above them.

(I'm a firearms owner, and marksman with more than 50 years experience with long arms and hand guns. ......legally.)
