Energetic Officials Impound Thai Carabao Drinks

More than 100 cases of Thai energy drinks were seized by Cambodia’s anti-economic crime police on Wednesday in Tbong Khmum’s Soung village after a complaint from the local exclusive distributor. Tang Seng Huot International filed a complaint to the Interior Ministry’s Anti-Economic Crimes Department about two weeks ago before forces led by Deputy Director Long Sreng, who conducted five operations to no avail, had some success when they raided a premises on Wednesday.

Mr. Sreng said the drinks were illegally imported from Vietnam. The raid netted 129 cases of Carabao energy drink that had been originally produced in Thailand. “We confiscated 129 cases of Carabao energy drinks. All the drinks are real, not fake, but they were illegally imported into the country. Vietnam imported the drinks from Thailand, but they are not popular in Vietnam so they overflowed into Cambodia,” he said.

The drinks can only be imported from Thailand through the legal channels by Seng Huot International, which received exclusive rights to import the drinks into Cambodia. “The operation came after there was a complaint from the exclusive distributor to us about half a month ago,” Mr. Sreng said.
