French Doctor Gets Official Post

Featured Replies

French neurosurgeon Francois Xavier Roux has been nominated by the government to be an advisor to the Ministry of Health, Doctor Koy Vanny, a diabetes and endocrine disorder specialist at Calmette Hospital, told Khmer Times yesterday. “This nomination was a kind of reward for what Professor Xavier Roux has done for Cambodia in terms of developing and sharing neurosurgery skills with Cambodian neurosurgeons,” said Dr. Vanny.

Professor Xavier Roux has helped send Cambodian surgeons abroad to further their education, he added. “Today, our neurosurgery unit at Calmette hospital is developing its human resources more and more and new medical technologies to reach international healthcare standards,” Dr. Vanny said.

Calmette Hospital has been providing a variety of neurosurgical services for adults and children for the past 10 years, according to the hospital’s website. To improve the quality of neurosurgery at the hospital, various collaborations have taken place with international partners, especially neurosurgeons from France. The Cambodian surgeons working at the hospital were trained at the National Institute of Health Sciences.
