It seems that Thai drivers are not aware, or ignore the fact that the hard shoulder is meant for emergency vehicles. But then maybe it's not here in Thailand. Just another lane for the 'Me first' syndrome drivers.

As much as I wish it were true, the fact of the matter is that even in the so called "civilized" countries, yielding to an emergency vehicle does not always happen as it should. New York city is a very good example. You would get help much quicker by being pushed along on a skateboard to the nearest hospital. I cringe every time I see an ambulance stuck in traffic, in a lot of cases seconds count and could be the difference between life and death.

Good for the the ambulance and great initiative from the motorcyclist.

As for the national pride and 'spirit of thai', it isn't surprising there's such a big deal - the thai have alot of pride. Anything that can glorify the nation and it's people will be used when it appears.

I sure hope that other thai take notice and at least consider emulating the biker's effort. They're out there, many of them.

If people were truly "considerate" of others, the biker wouldn't have had to do anything.

I have driven vehicle in many countries around the world, but I have never seen a country like Thailand with such a lack of common courtesy.

Good for him. But if Thailand followed countries such as the U.K. - and common sense - it would be a legal requirement on motorists to move out of the way as soon as able. Of course, it helps if motorists are aware of that, and in LoS ... who knows?

I REALLY want to see the TV posters who take the time of their day to ride up to and make hundreds of cars move out of the way for several Kilometers of Bangkok traffic jam, in a country where people are simply not used to make way for the Ambulance, and where everyone's simply on the way to work. Do that, then come back and be cynical.

It is very impressive when police provide an escort for an ambulance. I saw it once back in the UK. Police on motorbikes came screaming through to the traffic lights stopped everything then the ambulance doing around 90mph flew through followed quickly by the police bikes

Actually as my father was a UK Ambulance Driver for many years I can assure you that is not the case.

Yes there are laws on obstructing emergency vehicles, but that does not clear traffic jams.

People will get out of the way of emergency vehicles, however it is also human nature that when they hear sirens they move over, watch the police rider come through, then pull back out to see where they are going, directly hindering the path of the Ambulance!

If the escorted ambulance had a number of Police bikes escorting it then I would suggest that the person in the Ambulance was of some importance. It is very rare for an Ambulance to be escorted. There is just not enough Police Riders to go with all the ambulances.

But a modern alternative is the Paramedics on Bikes. This is a result of the legal requirement for first responders to reach accidents in under ten minutes.

The way the UK Police operate traffic control is well practiced, and very different to anything currently seen in Thailand.

In LOS there are every day police escorts all over the country, mostly for STUPID reasons like VIP busses and other things (pit paak)... Why the hell cant they escort an emergency ambulance when stuck in traffic ? Oh right, "not my problem".... sigh

it was revealed later the ambulance just needed petrol that why it turned into PTT petrol station lol.

In these cases with an ambulance in traffic i always hope the ambulance is not on it's way to a accident but rather on it way to the hospital because at least the causality is receiving some medical attention in the back.
