hi everyone! i'm new. a friend of mine from philippines comes to bkk every month but stay only 3-4 days each time to buy some goods like garments etc back to sell. under the new 180 day period - stay max. only 90 days, does this mean he is not allowed into thailand after the 180th day even though he has accumulated less than 90 days during this period? does this mean he has to stay out for another 180 days before he is able to enter thailand?

thanks/dindaeng

As far as we know he should not have any problem. The count is expected to be days in Thailand. But until some exceed 3 entries or 90 days we can not be sure all will be as expected.

the new ruling is not very clear. even if a person does not accumulate 90 days within the 180 day period, he still has to stay out for 180 days before allowed back into thailand. this will certainly affect those tourists from malaysia, singapore, philippines etc who visit thailand almost every month for shopping or entertainment. those buget airlines will also be affected

dindaeng , please read carefully , it is 90days out of 180days,if you a casual visitor you will be fine , if you plan to take up residence doing visa run you have no chance anymore.

Get a Visa and enjoy life in LOS ;-)

Your first entry after the 1.10.06 is the starting point for all calculations.

How they will do with people showing up at the border and have used up the quota only time will tell.

Expect starting January to get report on this.

My experience with laws, government regulations and rules is that they are difficult to read and understand even in one’s mother tongue, unless one is a lawyer, and English translations of Thai texts can be quite convoluted, too. For what it’s worth, here is the relevant passage from the English translation of “The Royal Thai Police Order No. 608/2549” posted on the website of the Immigration Bureau:

...permitted for multiple entry into Thailand, by permission of which must not exceed thirty days per entry with a total period of stay not exceeding ninety days within six months from the date of the first entry into the Kingdom.

The text as such seems quite clear: it is the number of days that count. What remains to be awaited now is how clearly individual immigration officials at the border points understand and implement it.

From reports I have seen so far on ThaiVisa, officials are looking out for persons whose history of Thai stamps indicates that the passport holder is living long-term in Thailand on visa-exempt entries – which from now on will be a combination of visa-exempt entries and tourist visas – and mark their visa-exempt entry stamps for easier identification at a later date and adding up the number of days.
