Four boys drowned in stream in Ubon Ratchathani

UBON RATCHATHANI: -- Four boys, aged 3-6 years old, drowned after they went swimming in a stream behind a temple in Khueng Nai district of Ubon Ratchathani province yesterday.

Rescue team members spent over an hour to retrieve their bodies from the water after they were alerted that the four boys went missing from homes in the afternoon, and they might drown in the stream as their shoes were on the bank.

One mother said she went looking for her son after he didn’t return home to have dinner as usual.

As she tried looking for the child at other neighbours’ homes, three other neighbours also told her their children also were missing.

They went looking around at the stream behind Wat Bannang Noi temple where their shoes were on the bank.

They suspected the boys might drown.

The rescuers then dived into the stream which at the time is 3-4 metres deep and four bodies were found in the water.

What a horrible loss. My prayers are with those mothers and their little boys. RIP

Mother says she was worried when her 3 year old son did not come home for dinner ? What ?

An avoidable tragedy. My son aged four has swimming lessons every week, private and at school, even our 8 month old baby has had lessons for last two months. The lessons are cheap. Both my older English children are strong swimmers, taught at school.

With so much unguarded water in Thailand, why don't more parents take basic precautions to protect their offspring, and why don't the government step up to do more to protect the weakest in society by promoting swimming as a skill and a sport.?

Any parent's worst nightmare. So sad. I guess no baby sitter chosen by at least one of the families of these boys?

Don't you get it that 4 innocent boys drowned and all they wanted was to play?

There are so many adults and children all around the world who can't swim. RIP< little boys.

RIP small chaps... hope that you four buddies are together in a better place now, if there's one.

So sad...

...completely senseless....

Nor does your insane post help anybody out there. .......

Hate that to see these all to common tragedies here, so awful for those boys and families, it affects me quite personally as I grew up with a swimming nut father (champion, head state coach, swim school owner, life member RLSSA)

Trained me to the Nth degree, was in senior squads at 11, i got all the certs and swim like a fish, but sadly cant do anything much with those credentials, thanks to the moronic and severely outdated labor laws, but hey no Thai government gives a rats arse about this!

Oh yes you can, take a few local kids to the closest, pool, dam, river or water hole for a fun afternoon picnic, no rules or laws preventing that.

True that.

Done that many times already, but to properly learn water safety and swimming requires regular structured lessons.

Good, just expand it a little, nothing to stop you accidentally meeting the kids one or twice a week as you enjoy swimming.
