BANGKOK: -- Plans to build 50 budget hotels at PTT gas stations nationwide have been announced.

Attapon Rukphibun a senior manager at the petroleum giant said that the venture represents a new business model and that PTT is in negotiations with several hotel groups, reported tnamcot. They expect to develop some 50 hotels in the 600-700 baht per night price range over the next five years.

Attapon said that the hotels would be able to offer more than the usual facilities at budget hotels with 7-11 on hand 24 hours for food and Café Amazon stores available at their pumps. Travelers would be able to plan multi day tours around their new hotels with packages likely to be offered to customers.

They expect to invest 2.5 billion baht in the idea, money that might all come from PTT or possibly other investors. Decisions about exactly how the plan will take shape will be made this year ahead of making a start on building next year.

Several budget chains already exist such as Hop Inn, D2 and B2. It was further reported that Hop Inn plan to open a budget hotel at a petrol station in Rayong province in the near future.

Lovely, a new chain of short time hotels. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Sounds like a great idea...clean cheap...more off the path locations.

Sleeping in the car : 0 THB .

Question is , will there be an hourly rate ? 600 B for a quicky ...maybe ....if they provide the female "partner ".

I don't understand the 'Flake out' in the title. What does it mean?

But.more importantly, will you be able to get alcohol at these hotels at the PTT stations?

In the outside world, they're called motels and have been starring in movies for decades. Basic room, clean bed and bathroom. No need for luxuries.

A good idea not before time.

Because nothing beats the smell of benzine over coffee in the morning ... clap2.gifclap2.gif

Only napalm, according to some people.

I can't see them having very high occupancy rates. I mean it's not like being stuck in an airport where you have little choice but to stay in the airport hotel.

even if you are feeling tired you still have your car and you can drive anywhere within the vicinity of the gas station and find a hotel which is more suitable to your needs.

Unless they offer something ultra cheap such as a capsule hotel

Sounds like a great place to take the family.

"We're here kids"

"Dad, we're off to play footy"

"Ahh, alone at last my pretty wife"

"What's that sound love?"

"Oh nothing it'll be kids playin footy"

"Yes, it does sound like balls slapping against something"

"Come here"

For once someone who is a Thai national has had a smart idea and not a complete brain fart. What they should also do is offer more parking spaces just for lorry/truck drivers so that they can sleep in a more safer environment then the hard shoulder/side of the road which many do now. Even offer them a cheap restaurant, where they can get a good meal at a reasonable price. They do this in France at the "Le Routiers" truck park, why not here?

Is alcohol really that important? If so, maybe the motel will have a stock for registered guests.

How about bringing your own if you must drink alcohol during a journey.drunk.gif

Great idea if they rent the rooms by the hour.

I could certainly use a 1 hour sleep break sometimes when doing my BKK-KPT trips.

Sleeping in the car is NOT practical IMHO. Have to leave the engine running for a/c, uncomfortable seats.

The idea of using it for a quickie sounds interesting either, must be relaxing after escaping BKK's friday afternoon traffic.

"a senior manager at the petroleum giant said that the venture represents a new business model "

Coming next, Thailand mulls way to charge royalties from the rest of the world, where this 'new' business model has been employed, for at least the last fifty years or so ? wink.png

Yay for Thai Innovation ! rolleyes.gif

This "new business model" calls for a new exciting name. I nominate Motel 6.
