Hi -

Today I went into immigration to have my passport stamped with the one year extension, I applied and went through the interview 3-4 weeks ago. When they stamped the passport today the date they put on the stamp was the middle of July, a year from the time of application would have been the middle of October.. Am I missing something?

When did you arrive in Thailand. I understand that the first visa extension is for the remaining part of the year.

Maybe it is your passport. When does your passport expire?

Bkksw, please check your dates.

You can normally only apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any permit to stay (which would be 90 days on your non-o).

Mid-july is about 90 days back from mid october.

BTW I am assuming marriage to a Thai is the grounds for the extension :o

Perhaps it is easier to understand if you consider that the extension is to, not by, 365 days.

In other words, when you entered Thailand, you received permission to stay for 90 days from the date of arrival. With the extension, your permission to stay gets extended to 365 days from the date of your arrival in Thailand.

I've still got 3 years to go on my passport.

Yes, I'd exited the country each 90 days and was in the last 30 days of the original visa.

"Mid-july is about 90 days back from mid october."

Yes, I was wondering if that had some significance I'm missing?

"BTW I am assuming marriage to a Thai is the grounds for the extension :o"

Yes.

This is this is what I thought. I arrived in October, applied for the extension a year later in October, had the extension approved.. but the date on the stamp is shows July of next year vs. October. This doesn't seem correct to me unless I'm missing a finer point.

btw - Every 90 days I need to "report" to confirm my current address? Do I just call or do I need to go in?

I had the same query last year and was told they extend from the 1st

entry into thailand

That would be October of 2005 this time around, yet the date is July. There is probably some logical explanation if only they made a mistake..

You seem fixed on the date of your application for extension. Forget it, as far the period of extension of stay is concerned.

I have a feeling that there is a piece of the puzzle missing. Are you saying that you never left Thailand between the date you arrived in Thailand in October 2005 and the date you applied for your extension of stay in October 2006?

If you did leave, and re-enter, Thailand during this period, on what date was your last entry into Thailand? Look at the latest Thai entry stamp you have, the rectangular stamp that says “admitted <date> until <date>” and tell us the date after “admitted”. To help you identify this stamp in your passport I give you below the picture of an entry stamp in my passport. On yours, the dates will obviously be different.

There is a form for you to fill out and sign, form TM.47, which you get at the Immigration Office or you can download it here. Calling in, therefore, is not an option, but you can choose between submitting the form personally, within the last seven days before the due date for the report, or sending it by registered mail a week before the due date.
