Laptop wont charge

Got a new nextbook, intel, in Dubai a few months ago.

One of those ones where the screen detaches from keyboard & becomes an I-pad.

All was well till a few days ago, tried to charge it-no go, tried charging by USB port, still nothing.

Now I am in Pattaya, anywhere I could take it for some expert to sort?

Did you allow the battery to discharge fully and not charge for several months ? If so...its the battery not the laptop

Not necessarily true. but I have seen it happen in laptops with internal battery packs.

Remove the battery pack....with power unplugged, of course, and try to carefully clean the metallic contacts where the battery plugs in to the main body.

Use a pencil with a rubber eraser on it.

Be careful, gently clean those metallic contacts, and make sure no pieces of rubber from the pencil come off or the metallic contacts are damaged.

Then replace the battery pack and see if it will now charge.

Doesn't always work, but some times it does.

What happens is that a film can build up on the metallic contacts for the battery pack that stop the battery pack from charging.

I used to use this trick also with handheld communications radios that would not charge when plugged into the charger rack.

But the rule is to be gentle when you rub those metallic connectors.

Don't damage them or the battery pack.

Note: I used this on a laptop with such a battery pack a few years ago....and it worked.
