BANGKOK, 27 June 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Government is confident the United Nations understands well the current political situation in Thailand while stressing its commitment to the country’s reform roadmap.

Suwaphan Tanyuwatna, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, said the preparations for the August 7 referendum have been going as planned, adding that responsible agencies have been working in close collaboration to ensure a positive atmosphere during the period leading up to the referendum.

He said the government is convinced that the UN understands the current situation and what is about to occur in the kingdom. He also expressed hopes that the country’s political transition will be in accordance with the reform roadmap and that all sides will render their cooperation to achieve the reform goal.

When asked about the Department of Special Investigation's (DSI) attempt to arrest the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, he said the DSI is working closely with the Office of National Buddhism, given the sensitivity of the issue. He said the DSI will avoid using force and will definitely abide by the rule of law.

Instead of them assuring themselves and others about what they think the UN is understanding about, why don't they just ask the UN so they would know for sure. This article is just a propaganda without an actual comment from the UN

Another comment on behalf of others which is nothing new for LoS. Imagine the reaction if other countries, organisations etc were to make public statements on behalf of Thailand.

It's about others started contradicting LoS, big time.

The UN understands the situation in Thailand cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Even 99% of Thais do not understand the situation.

Unelected government being run by boys who are used to playing with big guns/tanks.

Who spit out the dummy if anyone says something they dont like.

This is a correct statement as I am sure the UN does understand. I don't believe though that the UN and Thailand's understanding are the same or even close

I am quite sure that the UN understands Thailand all too well. It is the Thai governmment that does not understsnd what it is exactly that the UN understands.

Nice link heybruce.

Hope the J cheer squad take note.

After the arrest of the 13 protesters with 6 being jailed facing 10 years and both sides now critical of the draft I fear as we get closer to August 7 things are going to get worse if the crackdowns on what they call dissent continues.

"He said the government is convinced that the UN understands the current situation and what is about to occur in the kingdom." If UN had any teeth or balls, Thailand might be afraid of UN understanding. "Understanding" does not equal "approval". I understand Charles Manson's motivations, but that hardly made them okay.

....'is confident'....'is convinced'.....

...that headline and statement are obviously inaccurate.....if not misleading......

I am sure the Un understands , for there is diplomacy, I am sure that US Secretary of State, the foreign embassy's of most good valued nations, would have by now told Prayut - O - Cha just where the cookie monster did hide the cookies, hallucinating Junta's are one thing , but state of denial Junta's are completely different,, they don't listen , until it is too late either for them or their country is left in ruins................................................coffee1.gif

On a par with Ethiopia, Bangladesh etc, impressive.

One of 7 countries picked out for bad governance and human rights , not bad when you consider the hundreds of countries in the world.

Perhaps Grumpy will be bragging about Thailand's preferment in his Friday night homily. Which, I notice has reverted back to the original 'sit down and I'll talk at you' format.

The thing that puzzled me then, and puzzles me now, is... why the English sub-titles?m Who does he think he's managing to fool? probably 95% of all Thais couldn't read and understand English if you hit them with a rock. So who's it for?

So its Royal Thai Government now.

Haha, well amending the word Royal in front of the words

Thai police seems to have protected that band of

thieves for many years, maybe it can do the same

for the current " government "....cheesy.gif

And yes, I am pretty sure the UN knows exactly what

is going on in Thailand...

"...the government is convinced that the UN understands the current situation..."!

The UN understands all right, it's only the junta that has problems clearing away their own smokescreen, so they can see themselves as others see them.

The UN understands only what they have been told...nothing more...

Few Thais completely understand the current situation in Thailand...the present government has a history of moving the target date to elect a democratic government...many folks do not trust that a new democracy will ever be formed...and yet others do not care if they are ever under a civilian government again...

So, how the heck can the UN have a clue?
