BANGKOK, 27 June 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Highways has kept officials monitoring around the clock 20 areas in Bangkok and outlying areas likely to be flooded by heavy rains.

Deputy Highways Department Director General Sarawut Songsivilai said the agency had assigned its branch officials in Bangkok and outlying areas to spot the flood-risking areas and prepare personnel and equipment to help fight flooding on the roads.

He said the department is aiming to see no road being flooded which would otherwise cause traffic jams from now while the department's branches responsible for roads in Greater Bangkok Area are now working with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, local municipalities and the police to watch over 20 spots determined as highly likely areas of flooding.

The Department of Highways is now monitoring all sensitive areas around the clock and prepared to help the general public in case of heavy rains while fast-moving water pumping units have been put on standby to facilitate water drainage in the affected areas.

Japan are expecting more flooding and are installing massive drain pipes to cope with it. Now if only Thailand could think this the problem would be well on the way to being solved instead of yearly flooding everywhere
