webfact Posted June 27, 2016 Share Posted June 27, 2016 Thailand to raise water transport safety standards in Andaman SeaPHUKET, 27 June 2016 (NNT) - The Marine Department signed an agreement with relevant agencies to raise water transport safety standards.Deputy Transport Minister Ormsin Chivapruck chaired a seminar on water transport safety, which was held in Phuket province over the weekend. Among the attendees were Marine Department Director-General Sorasak Saensombat, Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada, representatives from six tour agencies based in provinces along the Andaman Sea, and official from related agencies.An agreement was signed to establish a water transport safety center and to align safety regulations to international standards, in a bid to foster tourist confidence.According to Marine Department chief Sorasak, provinces along the Andaman Sea are considered to be among the world’s most-visited tourist destinations, making tourist safety a priority. These provinces include Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang and Satun. To this end, four safety measures will be adopted in these provinces.
