Huawei Technologies opens regional headquarters in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 29 June 2016 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said he has discussed with executives of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a partnership between the Thai government and the Chinese firm.

During the deputy premier's visit to China between June 26 and 30, 2016, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Huawei, the National Science and Technology Development Agency and the National Innovation Agency on cooperation in several areas such as IT training, technology transfers and job creation in order to help transform Thailand into a regional ICT hub, he said.

Under the signed MoU, Huawei will share its global ICT experience with Thailand and offer advice to this country on digital economy.

Huawei Technologies officially opened its Southeast Asia regional headquarters in Bangkok in a strategic move to cash in on opportunities arising from the country's digital economy.

The Huawei branch on Wireless Road, Bangkok, is furnished with 12 million US dollars in investment capital, underscoring the firm's long-term commitment to the Thai market and continued growth in the region.

Thailand has long been known for its rich tourism resources, and currently has 400,000 registered SMEs. If the SMEs can use digital technology and unleash their creativity, that would definitely increase employment and economic vitality.

Over the past 18 years since it entered the Thai market, Huawei has been committed to localizing its operations and increasing investment opportunities in this country. Over the past five years, Huawei has spent US$650 million in procurement from Thailand. Huawei indirectly creates over 5,000 jobs in this country each year.

Huawei now hires over 1,800 employees in Thailand, more than 90% of whom being Thai nationals. In Thailand, Huawei has established one training center, one regional solution innovation center, 15 spare parts service centers, 23 regional offices, and over 60 device service centers.

"Huawei now hires over 1,800 employees in Thailand, more than 90% of whom being Thai nationals. In Thailand,"

And the other 10% is Chinese?

Huawei has been known to hide their non-compliance with respect to Thai laws on foreigner worker obtaining a work permit. They are very clever at hiding this.

It's also been said that they hire subcontractors from China without legal status for working in Thailand, bypassing Thai subcontractor nationals.

In many respects they are very corrupt cheating the Thai government but apparently they either don't know or they simple don't care. Huawei uses unconventional practices to entice their customers and I wouldn't be surprised to know that they are greasing the palms of those in high places.

And the USA suspects them of technology spying - embedding back doors in their routers etc. Of course, that's the USA, paranoid, psycopathic, and they would never try to install backdoors or crack encryption coding or anything like that. Nossir. Pure as the driven snow. An example of peace-loving and non-interventionist democracy for the world.

Not.
