BANGKOK, 4 July 2016 (NNT) – Representatives of the Thai banking industry and related state officials have recently taken part in a seminar to discuss the country’s laws in the era of digitization.

Director General of the Comptroller General’s Department Manas Jamveha, said that, as all government offices have been urged to adapt themselves to the digitization era, the department has adopted more computer and digital technologies, including the e-bidding system, for use in its operations since last October.

Mr. Manas said that, so far, the adoption of new technologies has saved around 38 billion baht or 13 percent of the government budget.

Meanwhile, Kasikorn Bank President Predee Daochai noted that, Thailand’s laws are not quite ready for transition into digitization, as they don't yet cover all uses of digital technology. As a result there should be further legal improvements to help speed up the readiness.

Secretary-General of the Office of the Insurance Commission Sutthipol Taweechaikarn agreed with Mr. Predee and added that, without complete legal coverage of the use of digital technology, Thailand may experience problems, and preventive measures should therefore be prepared to cope with any difficult circumstances.

Well firstly they should rewrite the criminal code and bring it into 21st century. Much of it is many hundreds of years old, based on everyone sues everyone else.

Powers of arrest need to be restructured and the court system also needs a complete overhaul.

Hold all the seminars they want, what good will it do??

Someone should tell them that this is now the 21st century.

Most Thai laws were made in the 19th century and are not relevant anymore.

What laws are already in place should be upheld and administered honestly and fairly.

Something which is not done.

Good of him to be so specific. Very helpful analysis.
