VICTORIA: -- Australian police have charged eight people after 275 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were seized in the state of Victoria.

Where were the drugs found?
Hidden under the floorboards and metal pallets of three shipping containers from China in June, according to local media.

Has anyone been arrested?
Yes.

One Malaysian and seven Australians have been charged with importing drugs and trafficking offences.

How much was the haul worth?
The drugs have an estimated street value of 275 million Australian dollars (186 million euros).

.....1000 a gram is not what people pay from their local dealer-around 500-600!.....so over-valued i think.....the guy who gets his hands on the ist kilo or 2

is not going to pay 1 or 2 million.....i mean if you were going to buy say 5 kilos....wouldn't you want a sizeable discount for buying bulk....

^ They did say street value... which I would guess would be the cost if divided into small single serving units.

A gram is pretty light.

^......correct!.......the guy at the top who can dispatch in the smallest amounts possible will increase his profit margin....

But the downside to this is.....he is selling to a lot more individual buyers...ie.....more chance police will 'cotton on' to his operation....

Well they must have run out of cooks----the motor bike gangs used to produce it a lot....... but every now & again a caravan would explode in the middle of the night.........so maybe they thought this way was easier ......either that or Heisenberg has arrived in Oz............................

Unfortunately Australia pursued the idiotic and failed 'War on Drugs' US ideology from that fool Nixon.

Simple to solve make all drugs legal and treat drug addiction as a health issue and not a criminal issue.

Problem solved overnight. These drugs would be worthless. No market for it.

Yes, it's total rubbish.

Current street price in Bangkok is 2,500 baht for a gram. I doubt it will be much more in Oz.

275kg worth 186,000,000 Euros ($205,970,224.47)

676,363.64 Euros per kg (748,961.26 USD)

However, the UNODC estimates cost to be $35-50,000/kg

275kg is 275,000,000mg

A standard dose of meth is 5mg/kg

So, for a 68kg human (150lb), a standard dose would be 340mg

275kg of meth would be 808,824 standard doses or

230 Euros per dose ($255 USD)

I think the Aussies might have inflated this terrible public menace by AT LEAST

100 times
