PRACHINBURI: -- Special task force of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation continued to enforce the military junta's eviction of national park lands by influential people.

The latest raid at Thap Larn national park yesterday found two resorts in Nadee district of Prachinburi province encroaching on a hundred rai of land of the national park.

Both were ordered to demolish their buildings and all facilities while legal action is being considered to bring them to court.

The 100-men combined force was led by the so-called “Phaya Sua” task force, and accompanied by district officials and soldiers.

The first target raided is the Lert Thip restaurant belonging to Chakrawat Songchom located adjacent Highway 304 at the 48 – 49 km marker.

The establishment is fronted by a restaurant while a large residence and a number of rooms for rent were constructed at the rear.

The property has been built on an 18 rai plot which Chakrawat and his wife Thip claimed to have bought from its previous owner many years ago.

They claimed to have no knowledge that the property encroaches upon national park lands.

They were ordered to demolish their buildings and vacate the premises. Failure to do so would result in legal repercussions.

The second location that the team raided next is the Thab Lan Rom Yen Resort which has been built on a 39 rai plot.

Upon arrival, the team found a sign saying that the business had closed down.

The only person on the property was 59-year-old Khanit Inwassa who is the caretaker.

He was told by authorities to inform the owner that the property is encroaching upon national park lands and all the structures and buildings built must be demolished and the property returned to the state.

Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, the head of the Thab Lan National Park, said no official charges have been filed against the owners yet but they have been notified that they must demolish all the buildings and vacate the premises.

He said the owners have the right to bring forth documentation to validate their claims of ownership in which case the matter would be contested in the courts.

Here's an idea: get some of those rowdy students from tech schools to the sites and let them knock the places down.

All good, I'm glad to hear of some 'influential people' getting their just desserts for a change.

If they continue to chip away at the land encroachers, and force them to reinstate the land to it's natural state, eventually the encroachment will stop.

All good, I'm glad to hear of some 'influential people' getting their just desserts for a change.

I understand from local park officials that the REAL influential encroachers have been allowed to keep the land they have taken and the buildings on them provided they don't operate them as resorts, just as private dwelling places - still could be wrong.

There has to be corruption in the Land offices for this encroachment to happen in the first place.

But what if these land owners actually bought the land in good faith and the Land Office validated their purchase?

Will the government (the Land Office) compensate?

Shouldn't there be a proper procedure to establish this before sending in the tanks ... rule of law etc ?

You gotta wonder the background of the first to0 be evicted. I hope someone is going to point the finger if some parties get special treatment and are allowed to stay. Nothing including family connections should give absolutely anyone a free pass. No one should have the right to abuse because they belong to a family with special privileges. Kick them all out.

good to see action being taken to evict encroachers.

enforce enforce and enforce.

where there is too much at stake (by tearing

down illegal structures)the hurt will reduce such

illegal activities.
