BANGKOK, 8 July 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed concerns over socially disadvantaged persons who may be currently deprived of assistance from government agencies.

The premier visited an operation center of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and inquired why there still are homeless people despite the fact that there also are government agencies supposed to take care of them.

Social Development and Human Security Ministry Permanent Secretary Maitri Inthusut explained that the ministry opened the center obliged to take care of the homeless and other socially disadvantaged after it has been informed of their woes.

The premier finally chaired a meeting with high-ranking ministry officials, however.

I've seen the same homeless people in my neighbourhood for years. Most don't seem like they're crazy or alcoholics etc. Just seem like normal people with no home nor money. Why is no government agency helping them?

And before you say "why don't you help them?" Well, I give some 20 Baht here and there. But at the end of the day, I'm not the government and I'm not full of s*** saying how much I love 'my people'.

I would say that the entirety of the Thai people are 'socially disadvantaged' when they have no genuine voice in the running of their own national affairs. They are suffering from an enforced loss of vocal cords on a grand scale. Pretty big social disadvantage, that one!

Its a smart move on his part if he can separate the poor from the rest of the herd. He can separate them and target relief towards them. They are usually the part of society that votes against the establishment. He can target medical care (and take it away from the others) The rich and the middle class already vote for "the party" so its just a matter of bringing the poor and down trodden into the fold and the next election is in the bag.
