Dr Wisanu insists that PM is authorized to screen supreme patriarch’s nomination

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha is empowered to screen the name of a monk nominated to be the new supreme patriarch by the Sangha Supreme Council because he is duty-bound to submit the nominee’s name to His Majesty the King and to countersign the Royal Command for the appointment, said Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krea-ngarm on Tuesday.

Dr Wisanu’s remark confirming the prime minister’s role in the appointment of the new supreme patriarch came in wake of the ruling by the Council of State that the Sangha Supreme Council’s nomination of Somdet Chuang as the new supreme patriarch was in accordance with Section 7 of the Monastic Act and, hence, not illegal.

The deputy prime minister who is the top legal counselor of the government pointed out that since the prime minister would have to be held accountable if something went wrong, he, therefore, was entitled to screen the nomination.

However, he said he could not specify what issues that the prime minister would examine, claiming that corruption is not an issue to be discussed in public.

Dr Wisanu explained that the nomination was based on seniority with Somdet Chuang being the most senior followed by Somdet Phra Maha Veerawong, the abbot of Wat Samphanthawong who is now sick, Somdet Phra Maha Muneewong, abbot of Wat Ratchabopit and Somdet Phra Wannarat, abbot of Wat Bovorn Nives respectively.

Regarding land or forest encroachment by temples, the deputy prime minister maintained that all the encroachers – be it a temple or private entity or private individuals – will have to be dealt with equally by virtue of Section 44 of the interim charter.

Why such a lengthy explanation, so easy to explain. Section 44 says the PM can fo whatever he <deleted> wants.

I do however love the DPMs statement that "corruption is not an issue to be discussed in public". Transparency, my arse.

The DPM is well known for making irrational and 'off-the-cuff' statements that are later found to have no validity whatsoever. The PM, being the leader of an illegal regime, has no standing or authority whatsoever to be able to make any decisions at all. Consequently, with the return of a democratically elected government, it and hopefully a legitimate and incorruptible Supreme Court, can overturn any ruling made by the PM. Notwithstanding the aforesaid, politics has no place within religious affairs and should take no role in any approvals or otherwise.

The PM will be held accountable if something went wrong? Really? Held accountable by whom and to what standard. ? <snip>

He won't be held accountable - he awarded himself an amnesty remember...

"because he is duty-bound to submit the nominee’s name to His Majesty the King and to countersign the Royal Command for the appointment"

Well, if he's duty bound to do something then he should get on and do it perhaps?

Can't have it both ways dear leader...

By the way, it's quite along time since I saw the last bogus NIDA or Dusti poll saying how outstandingly popular and well-supported the dear leader is. Perhaps the guys who rort the numbers are of on their hols?

Must be close to 99% by now - no? cheesy.gifcheesy.gif
