PHUKET: -- A lost and weakened dolphin found at Rawai beach last night has died, despite rescuers attempts save the mammal.

Rawai Mayor Aroon Solos told the Phuket Gazette that he received a report around 5pm from locals that they had found a dolphin in trouble off Rawai beach.

“We immediately called the Phuket Marine Biological Center's (PMBC) Endangered Species Unit,” Mayor Aroon said.

Mayor Aroon said that while they were waiting for officer from PMBC, the dolphin was washed onto the shore by a strong wave. Locals and the mayor worked together to get the dolphin back into the sea.

Only you, it seems.

There seems to be a tone of satisfaction in your comment, why would you want locals to take the blame for a sick dolphin's death?

I don't get that comment either.

The locals tried, better than just doing nothing.

If it was that close to shore and then washed up had probably little chance of survival anyhow.

Good on them for trying.

If it came ashore because it was sick, (a common occurrence, among sea mammals) nothing can be done. so well done locals efforts. However, if a dolphin is weak, it needs to be constantly moved, or forced to swim, to assist with its breathing. ,

If this young dolphin was weak, and not sick, 'holding' it in the water might well have drowned it.

They tried, good job for doing so.thumbsup.gif
