Commerce Ministry to raise standards of elderly care industry

BANGKOK 19 July 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce is accelerating its development of elderly care businesses in order to cater to Thailand’s aging society and advance the country's wish to be a global hub for elderly care services.

Commerce Minister Abhiradee Tantraporn announced this week that she had tasked the Department of Business Development with supporting and elevating the management standards of elderly care services to enhance the industry’s credibility. She said Thailand’s suitability for the industry included the country’s service-minded mentality, convenient access to services, reasonable prices and facilities that meet international standards.

Mrs Abhiradee said her ministry has been committed since 2011 to enhancing the industry’s know-how and management capability in order to raise the quality of service, reduce principle costs and increase revenue share.

The country currently has 442 elderly care businesses that have passed the first phase of the ministry’s development process. The ministry will continue to conduct operational assessments and provide in-depth advice in order for the businesses to pass the ministry’s second development phase, where currently 55 businesses have been successful. The third development phase will enhance the ability for businesses to form networks with investors both domestically and abroad.

Ministry to promote caring business for the elderly

118_Apiradee-wpcf_728x410.jpg

Thailand is now making preparation to make the country a haven for the elderly or after their retirements as global projection indicating four years from now the elderly population will rise dramatically, particularly in Thailand where the ratio will be one to every five citizens, representing 13% of the whole population.

With global projections that indicate that by 2020, the number of elderly will increase dramatically, Thailand is making preparations to promote local elderly welfare businesses.

But by the next 10 years this will rise to 26% or one in every four persons will be an elderly.

With this fact, now the Commerce Ministry is making preparation to take advantage of the growing number of the aged population by promoting businesses taking care of the elderly, not only locals but foreigners who choose to retire in Thailand.

According to Commerce Minister Mrs Aphiradee Tantraporn, the Department of Business Development has been tasked to come up with a framework to regulate and provide support for businesses involved in looking after the welfare of the elderly in the country.

This not only to ensure the highest standards is maintained but also more importantly, to provide reassurance for both foreign and local elderly clients.

She recalled that the government has been making continuous preparations to push Thailand to become the center for looking after the elderly from other parts of the world.

Part of these preparations included building strong technical and practical skills for employees, and for operators in the doctor to achieve all levels of competency assessment which means they will be certified to establish an international network for elderly welfare with greater likelihood of attracting foreign investments.

As Thai people are unique in that they are amiable, caring and emphatic, and living cost is comparatively cheap, and has a great number of rest and recreation facilities with highly skilled medical staff and doctors, the government is confident that it will be a haven for those after retirements.

Yet another global hub. I am waiting for the day it is declared that Thailand is the Global hub of Global Hubs

Hope the guidelines won't be along the lines of that school where all those girls died...

Come to Pattaya and see the geezers being led about by various ladies in service industry. Seems they have worked out arrangements to the benefit of all parties concerned without government stepping in

I know one thing she would have good health care, and pension, I doubt the average Thai has much to look forward to in his or hers twilight years.
