PM Surayud's APEC message assuages foreign fear of doing business in Thailand

HANOI: -- International investors and business firms in Hanoi for APEC-related activities are voicing satisfaction with Thailand's Prime Minister Gen. Surayud Chulanont regarding his frank and encouraging speech on Thailand's foreign investment policies, a senior Thai Chamber of Commerce official said Saturday.

Savaraj Sach-Cha Marga, deputy chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that he had talked to a number of foreign businessmen attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit and that they said the Thai prime minister had alleviated the concerns by his stated intentions to resolve any political and economic problems still prevailing in Thailand.

On Friday, Gen. Surayud clarified activities on the Thai social and business landscape to foreign businessmen on the sidelines of APEC summit, held in Hanoi.

The premier said that during the coming 12 months his interim government would address four major structural challenges: to advance political reform, restore national unity, redress income inequality and strengthen the rule of law.

The military-backed government has said that it would stay in power for not more than one year.
