Thai police make another big Interpol arrest - alleged Slovakian thief banged up

SAMUI: Police in Samui working closely with national officers and Interpol have made another high profile arrest of an internationally wanted fugitive.

The man arrested in Bo Phut on Thursday was a Slovakian former hospital director who was hiding out on the holiday island, reported Thairath.

He was wanted on an international warrant after more than a quarter of a million Euros went missing from his hospital.

The arrest follows those recently of one of the Philippine's most wanted kidnappers and a Canadian wanted in Singapore for a bank heist.

Arrested in Bo Phut outside the Avalon Hotel was Michal Grujbar, 38.

He is wanted in his homeland of Slovakia for stealing 282,935 Euros (about 10.9 million baht) from the hospital where he was the director in the town of Zlate Moravce. The crime was committed in 2012 - 2013.

Interpol had contacted 190 countries for help but it was Thailand that found the suspect with many different forces and divisions working on the case. Grujbar has been held for overstaying his visa.

He admitted that he was the man named in the international warrant and was detained.

In reality, there's dozen more, if not hundreds of them hiding all over Thailand, all the local cops have

to do is take this more seriously, but because there's no rewards, and these guys didn't commit the crime

on Thai soil, there's not much interests in apprehending them.... offer a reward and you'll see how many

they'll catch.....

Sorry but your entire post just sounds like personal bias with no supporting evidence.

Are there still many more foreign criminals in Thailand? Sure.

But until the specific country or interpol or the FBI that requests their extradiction makes such a request then the Thai authorities have no reason to apprehend the individual unless crimes have also been in Thailand.

This arrest, along with the Japanese guy also arrested yesterday are just two more examples of General Prayuth cracking down on the low class criminal element type of tourist or expat.

I, for one, am quite glad to see these guys caught for their crimes.

Yeah, the Thai police could just arrest every farang in Thailand and lock us up until we could prove we were not wanted elsewhere--plenty of the farangs would be willing to pay the facilitation fees to be released.

This story has been hammed up a bit.' Interpol and national police', and Interpol had 'contacted 190 countries', 'many police forces and divisions involved'.

Interpol are merely serving policeman in the national police office (foreign affaird div) Interpol alerts usually do go out to 190 plus countries, once in Thailand, interpol first step is to contact - their superiors and immigration. This sort of thing is happening all the time. western countries more and more tend to elect for no publicity as they are aware of the nature of Thai police press conferences and there are laws in their respective countries governing what can or cannot be said.

There is an award for every foreigner arrested upon a request by a foreign country,it is not a money reward but certificates are giving

by the embassies.I was there when this happened and i can assure you the police men receiving this award where very happy!

Lots of pictures taken and a huge gain of face!

Good for the resume.

We all love recognition in the workplace for doing a good job...no doubt about it.

BTW, the photo of the captured guy sure gives a good indication of what a "quality" tourist he was.

Where did he find that t-shirt? a pile of discarded clothes that the homeless tossed out for being too decrepit?

Just a few hundred miles---and he is into a few countries with no extradition laws with EU....and easier to get a long stay visa.........Google could have been his best friend......instead of Sumchai............coffee1.gif
