i already have a company here but i wish to form another for a "trading name" so to speak. can this 2nd company be registered/owned by the first or is there a need for the full set up again with 7 shareholders etc etc?

Each company in Thailand must have minimum of 7 shareholders. Your first company may be one of the shareholders in the second company.
